A 20-year-old suspect remains in police custody following several anti-crime exercises conducted in the Besson Street policing district yesterday, during which two firearms, along with over 50 rounds of ammunition, were seized.
Over 270 rounds of assorted ammunition and a quantity of cocaine were seized by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force Strike Team during an anti-crime exercise in the Port of Spain district.
The exercise was carried out between 6 am and 11:30 am on Wednesday 26th April, 2017, at the Nelson Street Plannings, Port of Spain.
A gun and a quantity of ammunition have been found in Port-of-Spain, a statement by the Police Service said.
The discovery was made by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, while conducting an anti-crime exercise, between 8 pm and 10 pm, on Monday 24th April, 2017, at the Nelson Street Planning, Port of Spain.
A search of a staircase located on the eastern side of Building 51-53, resulted in one Taurus pistol, fitted with a magazine containing 18 rounds of .9mm ammunition, being found inside an electrical meter box.
Police have shot and wounded a man who opened fire on them.
The incident occurred shortly after 9 pm on Monday night.
According to report, a gunman attempted to carry out an attack on a group of men on Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain.
However, he was intercepted by police officers from a police post in the area.
There was an exchange of gunfire near Picadilly Street and the man was hit about the body.
He is currently warded at hospital.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services has distributed temporary food cards and clothing items to five fire victims whose homes were recently destroyed by fire, a statement by the Ministry says.
