International: Japanese warships to join US fleet near North Korea as tensions rise

Japan is getting ready to send several destroyers from Japan’s maritime self-defence forces to join the US aircraft carrier, Carl Vinson.

The US warship is heading to the Korean peninsula, trying to deter North Korea from conducting further missile and nuclear tests while China tries to stop them from continuing.

This comes as the Chinese president, Xi JingPing, had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, trying for de-escalation and a more “peaceful” approach toward North Korea.

International: North Korea says it will retaliate with nuclear weapons if attacked

North Korea has threatened nuclear retaliation against the US after learning that an American naval carrier strike group had been dispatched to waters off its coast.

The Kim regime reacted furiously, making a series of bellicose statements on its state media. “Our revolutionary strong army is keenly watching every move by enemy elements with our nuclear sight,” said the Rodong Sinmun newspaper.

It said that it was “focused on the US invasionary bases not only in South Korea and the Pacific operation theatre but also on the US mainland”.
