Fatal stabbing in Chaguanas Market

Police are currently at the scene of a murder outside the Chaguanas Market.

Details are still coming in, however, CNC3 NEWS understands Christopher Mendoza of Brasso and another man got into an altercation.

Mendoza, who was stabbed during the incident, died at the scene.

The suspect escaped on foot.

And we will update this story as details come to  hand.

El Socorro man held with Pistol and Ammo

One man was arrested and a pistol and quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force Strike Team, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the El Socorro district last night.

According to official police reports, at about 7:00 pm, on Sunday 22 December, officers proceeded to the home of a 26-year-old male suspect in Chanka Trace, El Socorro.

There, they conducted a search, which resulted in the discovery of one Ruger pistol fitted with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition in the man’s possession.

Investigations are ongoing.

One Held, Two Firearms, Ammo and Drugs Seized in POS Division

One man has been arrested and two firearms and quantities of marijuana and ammunition seized by officers of the Port of Spain Division, over the weekend.

The arrests and seizures took place during an Operation Strike Back Two exercise, conducted in the Belmont and Cascade Districts on Saturday 21 December.

The exercise also included officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force, Interagency Task Force, Belmont Operations Unit, Besson Street Operations Unit, Transit Police, Canine Unit and the Air Support Unit.

Suspects in Sangre Grande robbery arrested

Three people have been arrested for the robbery that took place at a supermarket in Sangre Grande last weekend.

Reports are that last Sunday, thieves stole a safe at the Good Luck Supermarket located at Railway Road, Guaico. It contained over TT$30,000 and US$4000.

Police said the suspects, ages 25, 27, and 32 years, were held during a police operation conducted by officers assigned to the Eastern Division’s Special Operations Unit this week, between Monday and Thursday.

UPDATE: Victims identified in Solomon Hochoy Highway accident

The victims from this morning's horrific accident on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway have been identified as national footballer 27-year-old Shahdon Winchester; his friends Michael Bradshaw, Keston Nicholas and 30-year-old Djenne Hills-Dyer, a hairdresser.

The four friends were returning home after liming at a club in Couva, which is owned by a footballer.

National footballer among those killed in highway accident

A national footballer is among those who died in this morning’s fatal accident on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.

Four people—one woman and three men—lost their lives in the accident.

One of the men has been identified as national footballer, Shahdron Winchester. The TTFA has issued a condolence statement in social media on his passing. The woman who died in the accident has been identified as Shahdron Winchester’s girlfriend.

Four die in highway crash

Four people—one woman and three men—have died in a crash on the Solomon Hochoy Highway, at the Union Overpass, this morning.

Details are still coming in, but CNC3 News understands the accident occurred at about 5:30 this morning.

Police are still trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased.

Reports are that the four people were in a white Nissan Xtrail on the south bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway in heavy traffic, under heavy rainfall conditions.

We understand that the vehicle lost control and slammed head-on into a utility pole.

Keep children safe during the holidays

The Children’s Authority (CA) is reminding parents to take extra precautions with their children during the holiday season.

Saying that children are more vulnerable to predators during vacation periods when they are out of school, the authority urged parents to be vigilant.

In a release issued today, the authority gave the following tips on child safety during the festive season:

Gang leader's son in police custody

The son of a well-known gang leader currently is in police custody.

The suspect was detained by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) in Couva  just after 9 this morning.

Senior intelligence sources told Guardian Media that police recovered one firearm and ammunition so far at a house in Sonny Ladoo Trace, Mc Bean Couva.

Police also seized more than $50,000 in cash.

The operation was driven by intelligence obtained by SORT and is ongoing.

The detained man’s father currently is in prison.
