Kublalsingh: “Stop work on the Fyzabad to Mon Desir segment, now!”

Works are going apace on the Fyzabad to Mon Desir segment of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension Project, but head of the Highway Reroute Movement (HRM)—Dr Wayne Kublalsingh—is calling on the Prime Minister to stop the project now.

During a press conference on Friday, Kublalsingh said acquisition of all properties has not been completed and all residents have not been compensated.

"The Government is breaking the law in Debe to Mon Desir. It is acting with malfeasance," Kublalsingh said.

PM Rowley urges nation to cherish families; think of the children and the elderly

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is encouraging Trinbagonians to embrace genuine human connection, cherish families, and care about children and the elderly in this country, as the nation heads in 2020 and beyond.

In his New Year’s Address to the Nation, the PM calls on T&T to bring an end to the alienation that is at the heart of some of the social ills currently plaguing the nation, noting that citizens need to put aside their fear of differences and reduce their prejudices.

ANALYST: 2020 Elections driving latest Cabinet re-shuffle

Former government minister and political commentator, Ralph Maraj, says the latest Cabinet re-shuffle was done intentionally, to ensure the ruling PNM gets back in office.

Speaking with CNC3 NEWS today, Mr Maraj said it is not strange the change has come at this time, given that this is an election year, and it is politically motivated.

He points out that the Prime Minister's assumption of the Planning and Development portfolio could be seen as demotion for Camille Robinson-Regis, who has been moved to the Social Development Ministry… But it is not.

Prime Minister to be new Minister of Planning and Development after Cabinet re-shuffle

The Prime Minister will assume the portfolio of Minister of Planning and Development from Wednesday 1 January, 2020.

In what is another Cabinet re-shuffle, Dr Keith Rowley has advised the President that several existing ministerial appointments are to be revoked, and new appointments to be made, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 3(9), 76(3) and 79(1) and 82(1) of the Constitution

PM extends condolences on Wayne Chance's passing

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has extended his condolences on the passing of Wayne Chance, Founder and Executive President of Vision on Mission (VOM).

In an official statement, the prime minister describes Mr Chance as “a leading light of useful activism”.

Dr Rowley lauded Mr Chance’s creation of VOM, which he says [quote] “helped many people and in doing so saved the nation from totally discarding many of those who ran afoul of the law and paid their dues after having been sentenced…”

PM can back up his statements—Rohan Sinanan

Works and Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan, says the prime minister did not make his statements this week about the Cambridge Analytica scandal, lightly.

On a political platform this week, the PM indicated that a certain advertising agency was involved in the data mining scheme.

Since Dr Rowley’s claims that company has threatened to sue.

Minister Sinanan says the prime minister knows what he is doing.

PM ROWLEY: “We must care about Cambridge Analytica…”

The prime minister has identified suspicious transactions allegedly in relation to payments by the former Peoples Partnership Government to Cambridge Analytica for data mining services.

Dr Rowley's comment comes after the UNC said there was nothing pinning the party to claims that members were responsible for breaching citizens’ privacy.

The PM told a meeting in Montrose, Chaguanas, last night, that Ross Advertising Agency appears to have been involved in the suspicious transactions.

DEVANT MAHARAJ: Plot to erase Smith Report

Former government minister Devant Maharaj is questioning whether attorney Elaine Green will continue to receive state briefs, given the outcome of the Darryl Smith Report.

The report has been discarded. It was commissioned by the prime minister, to determine the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of Smith's personal assistant, after she filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit and sexual harassment claims against him.

For­mer sport and youth af­fairs min­is­ter Dar­ryl Smith is de­mand­ing that the Gov­ern­ment de­stroy all copies of the re­port in­to the pay­ment of $150,000 to his for­mer per­son­al as­sis­tant af­ter she was fired and al­leged sex­u­al ha­rass­ment.

In a let­ter sent to At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Faris Al-Rawi on Fri­day, Smith’s At­tor­ney Annabelle Sook­lal al­so ac­cused Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley of giv­ing the me­dia mis­lead­ing in­for­ma­tion and try­ing to di­min­ish Smith’s claim of a breach of nat­ur­al jus­tice.
