A prisoner who stabbed another prisoner on Tuesday whilst in the holding cell block of the Chaguanas Magistrates' Court, has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, 12 of which will be hard labour.
Nigel McSween, 33, of Pierre Trace in Enterprise, was charged for maliciously wounding Makeel Simon, 29, of Kestrel Boulevard, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas.
McSween also was charged for having a shank (an improvised weapon) in his possession.
When called upon by First Court Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan, McSween pleaded guilty to the offences.
Police and prison officers are searching for an inmate of the Golden Grove Maximum Security Prison who escaped custody this morning while being held in a holding bay at the Arima Magistrate's Court.
He has been identified as Teddy Singh, who is charged with murder.
Initial reports indicate that the prisoner made his escape around 10.30 am when he was taken to court.
He is of brown complexion, is 5 feet 9 inches tall, slim-built and of East Indian descent with a ponytail hairstyle.
The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service says that around 9:55 am today, convicted prisoner Anil Sookoo escaped legal custody from the Golden Grove Convict Prison, Arouca.
Sookoo was recaptured at approximately 10:05 am by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service within the environs of the Golden Grove Prison Facility without resistance.
Sookoo is currently serving a two-year sentence with hard-labour for larceny.
He began to serve the sentence on March 5th, 2018.
Commissioner of Prisons, Gerard Wilson has commended the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for their speedy response in the recapture of prisoner, Chester Williams.
Williams escaped legal custody from the Port-of-Spain Prison at around 10.05 am Friday, during a recreational exercise.
He is serving a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence after being convicted of ‘robbery’.

An autopsy has found that Unil Phillip, 47, who escaped from the Carrera Island prison, on Wednesday 13th December, 2017, by jumping into the waters surrounding the island, died due to drowning.
Phillip’s body was found in waters off Point Fortin, in the Gulf of Paria, in the vicinity of Trinmar’s North Field Platform 14, on Monday 18th December, 2017, and brought ashore by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.
According to the autopsy report, the left arm of the deceased was found to have been severed after death occurred.
A prisoner who escaped from the Sangre Grande Police Station on Tuesday, has been recaptured.
Thriston Moses was found early Thursday sleeping in the bushes, a 12-minute drive from the station.
At around 1 am officers of the Sangre Grande CID were on a police exercise on Guaico Tamana Road when they searched the surrounding bushes.
Police said the suspect was found sleeping in a makeshift camp.
Moses was arrested and taken to the same police station from which he escaped.
Police are searching for a prisoner who escaped from the holding cell of the Sangre Grande Police Station this afternoon.
The prisoner has been identified as Thriston Moses.
Police say Moses was being held for larceny of two television sets.
Around 1.30 pm Tuesday, a police officer was about to place another man inside the cell when Moses accosted the officer.
Moses managed to push the officer aside and escaped.
A manhunt has since been launched.
