Gas truck overturns in Pt Fortin

Disaster was averted when a ten wheeler truck transporting 525 cylinders of liquid petroleum gas (LPG ) careened off the Southern Main Road in Point Fortin, on Wednesday. 

The driver  Raymond Ojagir, 34, of Arouca, escaped unscathed but the lorryman Christopher Bailey, suffered minor injuries to his hands.

Ojagir, an employee of North Plant LGP, said he was driving towards Point Fortin when he got a bad drive from an oncoming motorist around 10:30 am. 

Naipaul’s birthplace on verge of collapse

Sahara dust and smoke trigger health warnings

Dust in your face! Al­so your nose, mouth and lungs. But that’s the pe­ri­od which T&T is in, un­der siege from Sa­hara dust plus smoke from bush fires caused by the long dry sea­son.

“The Sa­hara dust will be with us un­til about Wednes­day, but it’s nor­mal for this time of year,” me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal of­fi­cer Bag­wan­deen Ram­datt said yes­ter­day.

The Met of­fice yes­ter­day chart­ed a dust haze in­dex of 32 de­grees C for Trinidad and 31 de­grees C for To­ba­go.

Missing girl found

A teenage girl who was reported missing has been found.

Police say Britney Betty-Ann Thompson, 17, of Caesar’s Court, Morne Diablo, who was reported missing on Wednesday 13th March, 2019, has been found.

As has been the practice, the police have given no further information of the girl's whereabouts but is thanking the public for its assistance in ensuring the teenager’s safe return.

Cabinet approves start of 'mixed-use' tower for Piccadilly

The Cabinet has approved the demolition of the old Besson Street police station, as the first phase of a Piccadilly development project.

This will make way for what is being described as a mixed-use tower building.

The announcement was made at today's post-Cabinet media conference by the Minister of  Housing and Urban Development, Edmund Dillon.

The tower building will involve space for economic activity on the ground floor, recreational space on the second floor and residential apartments on the other floors.

17-year-old Britney reported missing

Police are seeking the public's help in finding a 17-year-old girl who has been reported missing.

Britney Betty-Ann Thompson of Caesar’s Court, Morne Diablo, was last seen by her mother around 3 pm Friday 9th March, International Women's Day.

Police are asking anyone who has information on her, to call 999, 555, 911 or text/WhatsApp 482-GARY.
