Medical student destroys statues during church service

While the Palm Sunday celebrations were taking place at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Port-of-Spain yesterday, a medical student took out a pair of dumbbells and damaged the statue of St Paul and desecrated the crucifix that was supposed to be used on Good Friday.

Yesterday signalled the start of the Holy Week on the Christian calendar.

The Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday which commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant arrival in Jerusalem to the cheers of the crowd.

Bishop Gordon becomes Archbishop of Port-of-Spain today

Bishop Charles Jason Gordon will be installed the 11th Archbishop of Port-of-Spain today.

The 58-year-old of the diocese of Bridgetown, Barbados replaces Archbishop Joseph Harris who tendered his resignation to the pope when he turned 75 years old earlier this year.

Gordon, will be installed at a ceremony this evening at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Port-of-Spain.

Motorists are advised that there will be traffic restrictions around the cathedral from 3 pm to 8 pm and those without passes provided by the diocese will not be allowed through.
