9 more speed guns for police service

The police service has been armed with 9 more speed guns which have been immediately put into use.

Transport minister Rohan Sinanan an order for the use of the speed guns.

This would mean that there are now 15-speed guns in the hands of the police.

Meanwhile, the minister says in the upcoming year, the public will be told of the implementation of several key road safety initiatives geared towards the ministry's effort to ensure compliance with the current speed limit and traffic laws.

 

Minister wants to know who ordered road works on Beetham that led to traffic this morning

Works Minister Rohan Sinanan has called for a report on who dropped the ball on the Beetham project this morning.

Unauthorized works on the project caused traffic congestion for hours heading into Port-of-Spain.

When the project was launched three weeks ago the minister said works will be limited to weekends to ensure there is no inconvenience to the country's workforce.

Minister confirms military vessels an option to fill cargo gap

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says one of the options available to the government to take up the slack when the cargo vessel, 'Superfast Galicia' stops operating, is the use of two military cargo vessels.

Acting prime minister Colm Imbert added, at today's post-Cabinet news conference, that when the government order six vessels from Damen, two were cargo vessels.

Both ministers confirmed that the government is keeping that route as one of the options.
