Moonilal calls for Young’s head over prison break

Resign immediately over yesterday’s “twin disasters.”

This was the call to National Security Minister Stuart Young from United National Congress MP Roodal Moonilal following yesterday’s “twin disasters” where prisoners escaped custody from the Remand Section of the Golden Grove prison in Arouca, while a search helicopter involved in the manhunt crashed.

Speaker suspends hearing against Moonilal

House Speaker Brigid Annisette-George has agreed to suspend the hearing of the Privileges Committee matter against Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal pending the outcome of his legal challenge.

Through her attorney Deborah Peake SC, the House Speaker gave the undertaking that the Committee will not hold any meetings or hearings regarding the allegations against Moonilal pending the outcome of the substantive matter.

Moonilal is challenging the legality of the committee constituted to hear the two allegations against him.

Moonilal views Privilege Committee referrals as PNM abuse

Oropouche East Member of Parliament, Dr Roodal Moonilal says the decision by Government Members of Parliament to call for him to be referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament on two issues, is tantamount to harassment and intimidation.

In a statement today, Moonilal said, however, that he has faith in the institutions of Parliament and is not afraid of the process.

Dr Moonilal has been referred to the Privileges Committee for statements he made in the Lower House regarding Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and A&V Oil and Gas Limited.
